Summary of Position: The Director of Behavioral Health oversees the psychiatric management of all patients and residents cared for in the following environments: inpatient psychiatric unit (GMPP), MHC LTC Consultative Service, and the Medical Office Building (outpatient). Works collaboratively with inpatient and outpatient psychiatry staff, consulting internists, MHC Vice President for Administration and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure effective communication and high quality psychiatric care. Understands the mission of Masonicare Behavioral Health by recognizing the elderly we serve as unique persons, requiring individual alternatives to maintain full lives in their later years. Promotes medical, spiritual and emotional care, encompassing quality, dignity, compassion and confidentiality for each individual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversees and provides specialized psychiatric care! for patients admitted to the GMPP, seen on the consultative s! ervice and in the outpatient setting. Ensures 24/7 coverage for all patients on the GMPP by scheduling clinicians on a routine basis.
2. Attends and participates in patient care planning sessions, case conferences and patient rounds.
3. Acts as spokesperson for the department with outside agencies, where applicable, such as during the hospitalâs surveys, visits and any investigations.
4. Monitors the quality and appropriateness of care and supports the analysis of hospital accountability, service delivery and patient outcomes.
6. Participates in program development and assist with business plans.
7. Provides relevant continuing education opportunities for the department.
8. Maintains established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
9. Screens and provides recommendations to the Medical Staff abo! ut applicants for clinical privileges.
10. Understands and follows "Universal Precautions" as it pertains to potential exposure to all body fluids. Utilizes techniques of infection control.
11. Performs other related duties a1l assigned.
Key Competencies: Clinical expertise in inpatient psychiatry, ability to interpret and apply State Public Health Code. Strong communication skills with families and referral sources. Strong psycho-pharmacology management skills.
